Vitamins that Prevent Hair Loss

We know that good nutrition is very much essential for maintaining overall health. In the same way vitamins play a very important role in preventing hair loss. Do you know when does hair loss occur? It occurs when there is a deficiency of vitamins especially Vitamin B. There are many vitamins and other nutrients that help in maintaining healthy hair preventing hair loss. We will discuss few vitamins that prevent hair loss.

Vitamin A

Taking Vitamin A supplements or the foods rich in vitamin A may prevent hair loss. Vitamin A helps to produce healthy sebum in the scalp therefore its deficiency may cause dry hair thus resulting in hair loss. The foods that are rich in vitamin A include meat, eggs, and dairy products like milk, cheese, vegetables like broccoli, spinach, cabbage, peaches and fish oil. But remember that vitamin A should be taken in a limit as high doses may cause hair loss.

Vitamin B

Vitamin B is very much essential as far as the health and growth of the hair is concerned. B vitamins like B3, B5, B6, B7, B8 and B12 are very important for promoting hair growth. Foods rich in vitamin B include brewer's yeast, eggs, nuts, peas, soybeans, beans and carrots.

  • Vitamin B3 (Niacin): Vitamin B3 promotes scalp circulation thus preventing hair loss. Consuming foods rich in vitamin B3 like meat, fish, wheat germ and chicken or taking a vitamin B3 supplement may prevent hair loss.
  • Vitamin B5 (Pantothenic Acid): Vitamin B5 not only prevents hair loss but also prevents hair graying. It is very important for the health of the scalp. The foods rich in vitamin B5 include egg yolks, milk, meat, potatoes and whole grain cereals.
  • Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine): Vitamin B6 helps to create melanin that gives hair its color and also prevents hair loss. The foods rich in vitamin B6 include egg yolks, vegetables, meat and whole grains. It should be taken in a limit as large doses may cause uneasiness.
  • Vitamin B7 (Biotin): Vitamin B7 helps in production of keratin, which may prevent hair loss and hair graying. Eating foods rich in Vitamin B7 or taking vitamin B7 supplements has proven to be a good vitamin for hair growth. Foods rich in vitamin B7 include egg yolks, brewer's yeast, milk, bulgur, whole grains, oats, brown rice, walnuts, green peas and soybean. Many of today's hair care products contain Vitamin B7. You can use them.
  • Vitamin B8 (Inositol): Vitamin B8 is very important for hair growth as it keeps hair follicles healthy and prevents hair loss. A deficiency of this vitamin may lead to hair loss resulting in baldness. Foods rich in vitamin B8 include brewer's yeast, citrus fruits and whole grain cereals.
  • Vitamin B12: Vitamin B12 is important for healthy hair growth as it prevents hair loss. Foods rich in vitamin B12 include milk, eggs, chicken, meat and fish.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C helps in maintaining the health of hair by improving scalp circulation. It maintains the capillaries that carry to the follicles thereby preventing hair loss. Foods rich in vitamin C include potatoes, tomatoes, citrus fruits, pineapple, dark green vegetables and strawberries.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E improves the health of the hair by enhancing scalp circulation. Apart from preventing hair loss it also prevents hair graying. Foods rich in vitamin E include broccoli, spinach, dried beans, soybeans, eggs, wheat germ, brussel sprouts, green leafy vegetables and vegetable oils. Before taking vitamin C supplements consult your doctor as it may cause side effects.

These were some of the vitamins that prevent hair loss. But always remember that vitamins should be taken in a certain limit and not more than stated dosage. Over dose of certain vitamins may be dangerous. Therefore it's better to consult your doctor before taking them.
