Small Artery Disease and Herbal Remedies
Small Artery Disease are Herbal Remedies useful.
Small artery disease or coronary artery disease occurs when the small arteries become partially blocked or clogged. This blockage limits the flow of blood from the small arteries, which are the major arteries supplying oxygen-rich blood to the heart. The small arteries expand when the heart is working harder and needs more oxygen. If the arteries are unable to expand, the heart is deprived of oxygen. The resulting blockage restricts blood flow to the heart. When the blood flow is completely cut off, the result is a heart attack. It is caused by atherosclerosis, an accumulation of fatty materials on the inner linings of arteries. Healthy small arteries are clean, smooth, slick and the artery walls are flexible which can expand to let more blood through when the heart needs to work harder. The disease process in arteries starts with an injury to the linings and walls of the arteries. This injury makes them susceptible to atherosclerosis and blood clots.
Small artery disease is the leading cause of death now days for both men and women. It can be treated many ways. The choice of treatment depends on the severity of the disease. Treatments include lifestyle changes and drug therapy and coronary artery bypass surgery. People with less severe coronary artery disease may gain adequate control through lifestyle changes and drug therapy. Many of the lifestyle changes like a low-fat, low-cholesterol diet, weight loss if needed, exercise, and not smoking also helps to prevent the disease from developing. There are many Herbal remedies that may have a beneficial effect on small artery disease. Herbal remedies for small artery disease are designed to enhance heart function, improve blood flow, stop pain and improve symptoms. It also helps to boost energy and strong body for better health and quality of life. The main purpose of herbal remedies is to provide more comfort with fewer side effects. Some of the herbal remedies for small artery disease are stated below.
Garlic:
Garlic is a wonder drug for heart. It is one of the best herbal remedies for small artery disease. It is found that fresh garlic and garlic supplements may lower cholesterol levels in the range of 5%, prevent blood clots, and destroy plaque. It may lower blood pressure to a small degree and also preserves the elasticity of the aorta. Studies have shown that when people with high blood pressure were given one clove of garlic a day for 12 weeks, their diastolic blood pressure and cholesterol levels were significantly reduced. It may have a role in decreasing clotting.
Ginger:
Ginger also supports cardiovascular health. It has a tonic effect on the heart, lowers cholesterol and inhibits blood platelet collection. Ginger may make blood platelets less sticky and less likely to aggregate. Experts suggest that eating a little bit of ginger every day will help to prevent heart attack. Ginger is also considered a tonic for the digestive tract, stimulating digestion and toning the intestinal muscles.
Ginko biloba:
The Ginko biloba extract has an antioxidant activity and may mildly inhibit platelet aggregation. Ginko appears to be useful in several conditions and it is probably safe to take. These two actions may help to prevent circulatory diseases, such as small artery disease. It also supports the brain and central nervous system. Ginkgo may reduce the risk of small artery disease by interfering with a chemical the body sometimes makes in excess, called platelet activating factor .PAF stimulates platelets to stick together too much ginkgo stops this from happening. Ginkgo also increases blood circulation to the brain, arms, and legs. Ginkgo also decreases excessive blood coagulation.
Arjuna:
Arjuna a coronary vasodilator is one of the herbal remedies for small artery disease. It protects the heart, strengthens circulation, and helps to maintain the tone and health of the heart muscle. It is also useful in stopping bleeding and to promote healing after a heart attack. Researches have proved that arjuna contains specific medically active constituents namely triterpine glycosides. Bark of Arjuna tree has been found to be rich in Co-enzyme Q-10, which is highly prescribed in cardiology departments now days to prevent heart problems.
Ashvagandha:
Ashvagandha, a unique and erect herb with anti-stress adaptogenic action helps cope with life's daily stress and leads to better physical fitness. The principle constituents of its roots are the alkaloids, which have shown relaxant and antispasmodic effects against several spasmogens in intestinal, uterine, bronchial, tracheal and blood vascular muscles. It is especially beneficial in stress related disorders such as arteriosclerosis, arthritis, hypertension, diabetes, and general debility. It is used in asthma and as a uterine sedative.
Hawthorn:
It is the best-known herb for the heart, which improves circulation, dilates blood vessels and is also beneficial in small artery disease, high blood pressure, poor memory, insomnia and nervous tension due to its antioxidant and relaxant properties. The extract of hawthorn can increase blood flow to the heart muscle itself, helping to counteract heart attack, which is caused due to lack of blood flow to the heart. Hawthorn has been shown to improve the contractility of the heart muscle, increase cardiac performance and output, lower the peripheral vascular resistance steadies the heartbeat as well as increasing the heart's tolerance to oxygen deficiency in diseases where the arteries are partially blocked.
Guggul:
Guggul , a resin from the guggul tree, has been used for more than 2,000 years in India to treat a range of disorders. Studies have shown that guggul may decrease platelet stickiness whereby lowering the risk of coronary artery disease. It has been shown to lower blood-fat levels while raising levels of HDL. It is useful in atherosclerosis, psoriasis, cardiac ischemia and also with a condition known as medoroga, a disease similar to the modern description of atherosclerosis.
Green Tea:
Researches have shown that green tea may help with blood vessel and endothelial function which allows proper blood flow throughout the body and indicate how healthy the heart is. The endothelium is a layer of flat cells that line the closed internal spaces of the blood vessels and the heart. Impaired blood vessel functioning can lead to serious diseases such as small heart disease. The flavonoids in green tea help improve functioning of the blood vessel lining, or the endothelium by allowing the blood vessels to relax, thus having an anti-clotting effect.
