Natural Remedies for Constipation

What are Natural Remedies for Constipation?

What would you truly consider to be normal, especially in the case of constipation? Some people would regard it as normal to open their bowels three or four times a day, while normalcy for others would be restricted to once a week. Certainly, the human body can function quite well at either extremes, but most people probably open their bowels every day or every couple of days. It is wise not to get obsessed by the need to open the bowels daily, but if you experience a change of bowel habit that persists then you should seek the advice of your doctor. More often than not people suffering from constipation have either a foul breath, or a developing beer belly or even horribly dry skin. Thanks to the dehydration in the body, the system depicts these symptoms for the want of treatment. More so with people with large beer bellies, its often considered that these people suffer from a strange case of undigested food, that accumulates and because it cannot be expelled out thanks to the constipation, its grows on them.

A lazy intestine that does not contract properly and fails to move the stool to the rectum often causes constipation. Most of the food consumed by us needs to be processed. This digestion period typically takes about 3-4 hours. The intestine may become spastic and remain contracted for a prolonged time, thanks to the lack of watery substances in the food that has been consumed. In this case, the stool cannot move along. Constipation also can result conditions that can produce a sluggish, poorly contracting bowel include: pregnancy, certain drugs, thyroid hormone deficiency, and chronic abuse of laxatives, travel, stress, etc.

Causes of Constipation

A change in diet or dehydration or a change of daily schedule may lead to constipation. Certain medications, especially some painkillers are known to be the real rogues. Your guesses may range from eating some foods that cause constipation, to lack of water throughout the day. Sometimes the cause is a bowel disorder, but this of course is an exception rather than being a rule. Those people prone to eating out frequently suffer from both a case of diarrhoea or even constipation. Excessive use of wheat and other cereals that remain undigested can help you in falling prey to constipation.

Constipation Remedies

More often than not, white bread and bananas can help you get constipated if you’ve had immense trouble with your bowels. An easier solution to come out relaxed from the loo is to induce the natural remedial methods of water. Known to be available in the body to roughly about seventy per cent, water can perhaps be the best remedy to severe constipation. About two litres of water on an empty stomach can initially make you feel a bit dizzy as your cells are suddenly recharged, rather overtly charged causing a mild headache.

Start experimenting with water stored in a copper vessel that was left overnight. Most of the nutrition got from vegetables and fruits severely lack in metallic inferences. For example, zinc and copper are two metals that are equally essential like a few others too in our system. We can get a fair quantity of potassium and calcium but the ones mentioned above are not truly acquired in our systems. Copper water or water drunk from the copper vessel has a few liquid copper deposits in the liquid. These traces not only help in cutting out the grease in your body, but also keep your bowels clean. It’s almost as if you’re getting your bowels acid cleaned from inside, an acid that strengthens your system as it cleans.

Have fewer pastas and white items that act as fillers in times when we are at absolute hungry selves, block nutrition from entering into our systems. As far as possible avoid consuming these. Instead add in more fruits and fruit juices in your diet.

If possible, try and steam most of the vegetables that you consume. This protects the fibre content in the veggies and also ensures that you eat healthy. Try introducing the following in your diet as these would provide you with maximum relief from constipation and because they are natural, they don’t tag along any side effects.

Foods high in roughage, bran and fiber are essential in correcting and preventing constipation. In most countries where unprocessed grain is used and also where large amounts of fibre are consumed, there is little constipation. Citrus fruits, vegetables and other items that help you maintain a constipation-free diet are as follows:

  • Whole grain breads (whole wheat)
  • Bran cereals
  • Vegetables -- Root (potatoes, carrots, turnips), leafy green (lettuce, celery, spinach), or cooked high residue (cabbage)
  • Fruit -- Cooked or stewed (prunes, applesauce) or fresh fruit (skin and pulp)
  • Bulking Agents -- Fibre is the undigested part of plant food that passes into the colon. Certain types of fibre can absorb and hold large amounts of water. The types of water-retaining fibre largely available include the following:
    1. Food bran -- This is available as wheat, oat or rice bran. Processing of wheat and other grains removes this valuable fiberous part of the food so these processed products should be avoided.
    2. Psyllium bran -- The psyllium plant is remarkable because its ground seeds can retain so much water. Although this is generally labelled a laxative, it rarely behaves like one.
