Natural Remedies for Healing Bruises

Bruises also referred to as contusions are caused when the small blood vessels under the skin tear or rupture without breaking or cutting the skin. Bloods gets collected under the skin causing black-and-blue or purplish color. Bruises usually take two to four weeks for healing. But sometimes the bruise may spread downwards in the direction of gravity. Therefore it is necessary to speed up their healing process.

The natural remedies for healing bruises not only speeds up the healing process but also relieves the pain and discomfort of a bruise. They may also help in reducing the soreness and swelling that often accompanies bruises, which are caused due to an injury.

Naturally Healing Bruises with Cabbage

Peel a potato and grind it in a mixer. Put this grinded potato on a piece of cheesecloth and place it over bruises. The enzyme catecholase present in the potato speeds up the healing process.

Essential oils like Lavender essential oil, Yarrow essential oil, Hyssop essential oil or Helichrysum essential oil may help in healing bruises naturally. Add 4 drops of any of these essential oils to cold water compress and apply it to bruises. This will help in reducing swelling and healing bruises. For severe bruises, you can add 8-10 drops of essential oils.

Naturally Healing Bruises with Parsley

Crushing a handful of parsley and applying it to affected area regularly will clear up the purplish or black-and-blue marks in few days. Parsley is helpful in healing bruises due to its ability of shrinking small blood vessels.

Naturally Healing Bruises with Calendula

Boil one cup of water and pour it over two teaspoons of the chopped dried flowers. Cool the liquid and soak a cloth in it. Squeeze it, fold and apply to the bruise. Repeat this 4-5 times a day. This will encourage healing process.
