Home Remedies and Home Treatment for Severe Burns
Burns that are minor can heal by themselves. But in the case of severe burns, an immediate medical attention is required. In case of severe burns there is a plenty of loss of body fluids, which can be serious in children. Severe burns usually cause swelling and large blisters since it involves deeper layers of the skin. And when face, feet or genital organs are involved it can be more serious. Severe burns can be dangerous so therefore an immediate medical treatment is needed. But before that there are some home treatments for severe burns that include some first aid measures. You can give these home treatments till the arrangement of a doctor is made.
Before beginning with the treatment remove off the clothes and or jewelry if present since it can become too tight if the swelling of the skin occurs. Then follow the following steps
Rinsing the burn
The first step what you have to do is to rinse the burnt skin with cold water for about 15 to 20 minutes till the pain stops. If the burn is bleeding cold water also helps to stop the bleeding. Cold water helps to lower down the skin temperature and prevents the burn from becoming serious. But remember that cold water means not ice water or ice as they may cause tissue damage.
Cleaning the burn
Before cleaning the burn wash your hands thoroughly with clean water. Burns shouldn't be touched with the hands nor should the blisters be broken since the open blisters can get infected easily. Then clean the burnt area with the help of mild soap and water. Dry the area by patting it with a clean cloth. Apply a natural antibiotic and disinfectant like colloidal silver or a lotion made with vitamin A. Some suggests the application of butter on the burnt area, but avoid its use as it traps the heat inside the burn.
Bandaging the burn
After cleaning the burn the next step is to apply a bandage. The burnt skin or the blisters, which are not broken may be covered by a soft and clean cloth. But if the burnt skin is likely to become dirty by the cloth apply a bandage. And for open blisters also a bandage is needed. Apply a clean bandage over the burnt skin. If it becomes wet or dirty remove it and apply a new one to prevent the infection. Don't wrap the burn tightly as it may put pressure on the burnt skin.

- Apply egg whites on the burn. Egg white is very useful in case of severe burns. Just coat the affected area with the egg white. It will help to prevent the scars.
- Application of lavender essential oil mixed with body lotion is also useful.
- Apply honey on the affected area. It helps in promoting healing.
- Apply a cut onion on the burn.
- Apply two tbsps of yogurt on the burn and keep it for 15 minutes.
- Applying Aloe Vera on the burn relieves pain.
- Cutting a potato and applying it on the burn reduces the pain and prevents scarring.
- Applying toothpaste on the affected area gives a quick relief.
- Apply cream made with Vitamin E.
- Application of yellow mustard prevents the burn from blistering.
- Mix some salt to mustard oil and apply immediately on burnt area. This helps to prevent the formation of blisters.
- Application of soyabean paste or alcohol also reduces the pain.
These were some home remedies or home treatments for burns. Though it can reduce some pain caused by the burn, it can't heal or completely cure the burn. As it was told first only that the severe burns require a medical treatment. So if the burn is severe, don't rely only on home treatments. Contact your doctor immediately as it can be dangerous if left untreated.
