Home Foot Massage
A foot massage can be very rewarding and beneficial for a person. It can have some positive effects on the person’s health, especially in association with relaxation and pain relief. People can just go to their preferred massage parlor and get themselves one. Actually, they can get a foot massage right at the comfort of their own homes. They just need to procure a few things first.
Things needed
Those who want to get a foot massage in their own homes should first gather a set of things, namely, a stool, a cushion or pillow, or any other padded material, a towel, oil, a piece of cotton and cosmetic alcohol. Having a volunteer for the massage is also necessary.
Getting started
Before anything else, the volunteer should first wash their feet and then dry them afterwards. Since this massage has a relaxing effect, they have to find a very quiet area first so that the relaxing effect can be maximized.
Ideally, that place is a place where the person can comfortably lie down while having their feet slightly extended, propped for the foot massage. The pillow should be placed under the person’s knees so that the lower back is still supported. The towel will be placed under the feet so that the excessive oil can be caught to avoid ay unnecessary mess.
Playing some soft music in the background is also a good thing, especially with some candles lit, because it accentuates the relaxing effect brought about by the foot massage. When everything has already been prepared and all factors are ready, the massage therapist at this point will have to be positioned at the feet part of the volunteer, with the toes propped by the level of the chest.
Checking for broken skin
Before applying anything on the foot or putting on any pressure on any point on the foot, there should first be a visual check for any bandages, a possible Athlete’s foot infection, or open cuts. The massage might only make the wounds worse or open them a lot further. This is why when such things are present; the foot massage should not be put through.
Without the wounds, alcohol can now be applied with the use of a piece of cotton, starting from the upper part and ending with the lower portion. Warm the oil by rubbing both hands together and spread it over the foot right up to the ankle with only the use of light strokes.
Warming up
Start by twisting the foot and pulling it with the heel of a hand and then pushing it gently away. The therapist should start from the top near the toes and working the way down to the heel and then back up again. This technique should be repeated three times.
The hand should be placed on the top part of the foot so that it can be fully supported. After this, the foot should be sandwiched between both hands, while the middle knuckle on the index finger is being rotated with some turns of the wrist.
