Useful Hemorrhoid Treatment to Cure Hemorrhoid

Hemorrhoids also called, as piles are enlarged, painful veins in your anus and rectum, which may result from straining during a bowel movement. There are two types of hemorrhoid internal hemorrhoid and external hemorrhoid. Hemorrhoid treatment varies depending on their type, location, problems caused by them and their seriousness. In many cases hemorrhoids are temporary conditions that are healed by self-care measures. But when hemorrhoids are painful and do not respond to self-care measures professional medical hemorrhoid treatment is necessary. There are various hemorrhoids treatment depending on the type of hemorrhoid, availability of medical equipment and other considerations. Some of the treatments for cure of hemorrhoids are stated below.

Self-care hemorrhoid treatment

If the hemorrhoids are mild most of them heal on their own in a week or two. But hemorrhoids have tendency to return so some self-care preventive measures should be taken in cure of hemorrhoids or reducing their symptoms.

  • Put 2-3 drops of juniper and lavender essential oils in water and take daily warm or sitz baths several times a day
  • Apply ice packs on the anus to reduce swelling
  • Apply petroleum jelly or hemorrhoidal cream or suppository containing hydrocortisone to the affected area
  • Increase intake of fiber and water to soften the stool and reduce constipation
  • Cleaning the area with soap and water after each bowel movement by patting gently with moist toilet paper or moistened pads.
  • Wear loose clothing and cotton underwear
  • Avoid sitting or standing for long periods

Non-Surgical hemorrhoid treatment

Those hemorrhoids, which don’t respond or are not healed by self-care hemorrhoid treatment, need some other techniques to cure them. Non-surgical hemorrhoid treatments also called fixative procedures are aimed at curing the hemorrhoids without much pain by reducing the blood supply to the hemorrhoid so that it shrinks or withers away. There are four non-surgical treatments for cure of hemorrhoids.

  • Rubber Band Ligation: Rubber band ligation is the most effective non-surgical treatment for internal hemorrhoids. This procedure involves attachment of a tiny rubber band at the base of the internal hemorrhoid. The band cuts off blood circulation and they painlessly fall away in about four to seven days. There are rarely any side effects of this but if any infection develops immediately seek the advice of your doctor.
  • Infrared Photocoagulation: This method involves directing an infrared light to clot the dilated veins of the hemorrhoid. Since the blood circulation is cut off from the coagulated blood vessels the hemorrhoids shrink. This method burns the hemorrhoid off.
  • Laser Coagulation: This method involves the application of an electric current to the hemorrhoids. Due to the electric current a chemical reaction is generated which cuts off the blood circulation in hemorrhoid causing it to shrink.
  • Injection Sclerotherapy: This method involves injecting a chemical solution around the blood vessel near the hemorrhoid, which causes inflammation and closure of the veins, thereby shrinking the hemorrhoid.

Surgical hemorrhoid treatment

If the non-surgical hemorrhoid treatments do not relieve the symptoms, you may need to go for surgical treatments to get rid of the hemorrhoids. There are several different procedures surgical hemorrhoid treatments available for cure of hemorrhoids, which helps to eliminate or shrink hemorrhoids.

  • Hemorrhoidectomy: Hemorrhoidectomy is done when large internal hemorrhoids or several small hemorrhoids are present. This procedure is performed under general or local anesthesia and involves surgically removing the hemorrhoid groups in the anal canal. It is usually an outpatient procedure, but sometimes requires an overnight hospital stay.
  • Cryosurgery: This method involves freezing and destroying of internal and external hemorrhoids with the help of a cryoprobe, which uses liquid nitrogen or nitrous oxide as freezing agents. The liquid nitrogen helps in the cooling the tip of the cryoprobe to freezing temperature. The hemorrhoids can either be directly frozen or be ligated first. Since it is more painful than other surgeries local anasthesia is usually used to deaden the pain in either case.
  • Clot Removal: This surgery is usually performed with local anasthesia and involves cutting off the skin, lifting out the clot, and then applying dressing to the wound. The wound may be either stitched closed or left open. There may be some lingering tenderness while the wound heals, but the main source of pain that is the clot is gone.
