What are Gall-Bladder Symptoms?
Gallbladder is a small organ, which is connected to the liver and small intestine by tubes called bile ducts. Bile that is produced by the liver gets stored in the gallbladder. Sometimes due to some ingredients present in the bile, small stones are formed called gallstones. When these gallstones irritate the gallbladder, it results in gallbladder disease. Symptoms of gallbladder are very much inter-related to the symptoms of other digestive problems. Therefore many people often don't realize that they are suffering from gallbladder disease.
Gallbladder symptoms vary from person to person and in many cases they even don't show any symptom. The first gallbladder symptom is constipation, which is also a symptom of many other disorders. Therefore having constipation doesn't necessarily indicate that you have the gallbladder disease. Another such gallbladder symptom is jaundice. Jaundice is caused when the liver is not in proper working condition and doesn't produce bile. Some of the gall bladder symptoms associated with jaundice include:
- Dark discoloration of the urine
- Light colored stools
- Abdominal pain
- Itching
There are many gallbladder symptoms and they are generally related to gall stones and infection of the gall bladder (cholecystitis-Acute and chronic). Some of the common symptoms of gallbladder include:
- Pain or tenderness under the right shoulder
- Severe pain in upper right abdomen
- Pain in the back between shoulder blades
- Abdominal bloating
- Indigestion of fatty foods
- Light colored stools
- Gas
- Nausea

- Diarrhea
- Burping
Some of the symptoms of gallbladder attacks include:
- Severe pain in upper right abdomen near the rib cage, which may radiate to upper back
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Lot of Gas
- Belching
- Gallbladder attacks often occur at nights or after overeating
- Fatty or greasy meals can precipitate the pain, which may become worse with deep inhalation
- Gallbladder attacks can last from 15 minutes to 15 hours
These were the most encountered symptoms of the gallbladder disease and gallbladder attacks. Now we will see the symptoms of acute and chronic cholecystitis.
Gallbladder Symptoms of Acute Cholecystitis
Acute Cholecystitis means inflammation of gallbladder caused due to gallstones. The symptoms are more severe and persistent as compared to normal gallbladder disease. Some of the symptoms include:
- Severe pain in upper right abdomen, which may radiate to upper back and shoulder blades.
- Increase in pain while taking deep breath
