Essential Oils labels to look out for
When buying some essential oils, you will notice that there are some recurring labels in the oil bottles. If you are new to aromatherapy, then you may find these labels a little confusing if not misleading. The problem begins when you start believing in these labels. It can lead you to buy either poor quality oils or oils that can do little therapeutic effect. This can lead you to waste money on oils that will not improve your well being. This is the reason why I have decided to write this article. I will tell you about the three most common labels that can mislead people.
Aromatherapy
A lot of oil sellers are now branding their oils as aromatherapy oils. With the recent trend that now goes to a holistic and healthier lifestyle, businessmen have found that putting the word ‘aromatherapy’ in their products can actually increase some sales. However, for people who practice aromatherapy, this can be quite insulting. After all, this process can only be done with high quality oils. Substituting oils that mimic the smell of essential oils will not do anything. So the next time you see the word ‘aromatherapy’ on that bottle or you see a vendor selling what he claims as ‘aromatherapy oils’, do not believe him right away. Inspect his oils first to know if they are really of high quality.
Pure Essential Oil
Another term that is used in the industry is the word ‘pure essential oil’. It seems that vendors love promoting pure oils to their customers because it shows that their oils do not contain harmful chemicals. However, this term can be a bit misleading because real essential oils do not contain other chemicals to begin with. They have been extracted from plants so they are 100% natural. Oils that may contain other chemicals are not real essential oils. They may be perfume oils or fragrance oils. So do not be fooled when you see this label on the bottle. This word is not only misleading, but it also does not dictate the quality of the oil. You should check it out yourself by asking for samples.
Therapeutic Grade
Last but not the least, there is the term ‘therapeutic grade’. Again, essential oils are therapeutic by nature. Putting this on the bottle can only mislead people. I am really not sure why some companies put this label on their bottles. Maybe it is to indicate that their oils can be used for aromatherapy. However, the problem arises when they are not selling ‘real’ essential oils. Some people only sell fragrance oils and they put this label on it. Do not believe it. Fragrance oils and other types of oils will provide little to no therapeutic benefit.
So as you can see, the vendors in this market are quite aggressive. They will use pretty much anything to get people to buy their oils. Even if this involves putting some misleading labels on their bottles, they will still do it. Well, I am not saying that all vendors in the industry are selfish. I only want you to take the extra time to get to know your vendor and only buy from authentic ones. So the next time you see a label on the bottle of your essential oils, you will know what to do.
