Colon Cancer Symptoms
Colon cancer also called, as colorectal cancer or bowel cancer is a cancer that begins in the colon, or large intestine. When the cells in the colon grow out of control and take over healthy cells, it results in colon cancer. High fat and low fiber diet can lead to colon cancer. Colon cancer symptoms may vary from person to person. It is not necessary that colon cancer always show symptoms. In some cases it doesn’t show any symptom and the colon cancer symptoms doesn’t appear until the progression of disease into an advanced stage.
Colon cancer symptoms are often silent and sometimes go undetected. But with proper diagnosis and screening, colon cancer can be detected early even before the development of colon cancer symptoms. Changes in Bowel Habits
You can have diarrhea, constipation or other changes in bowel habits like gas, thinner stools or change in the caliber or consistency of stools. Colon tumor obstructs the passage of stools resulting in thinner stools, which is one of the common colon cancer symptoms.
Blood in the stool
Blood in the stool is the most commonly experienced colon cancer symptom. With the increase in size of tumor, the passage of stools become difficult causing the tumor to bleed. Blood is either bright red or very dark in color and is present on the stool or hidden inside the stools.
Unexplained Weight Loss
An unexpected weight loss is one of the colon cancer symptoms. Colon tumor causes pain and discomfort, which can lead to loss of appetite and finally results in weight loss.
Abdominal Discomfort or Abdominal Pain
Abdominal discomfort can include many things like swelling, bloating, cramping and feeling full. Swelling and pain in the lower abdomen occurs when the intestine is blocked by a tumor. Bloating may be caused due to a bowel obstruction and cramping may be caused by constipation or diarrhea.
Fatigue
Fatigue is a common symptom of many cancers. Fatigue caused by the colon cancer can be mild or severe.
Narrow Stools
Stools can be narrower than usual.
Unexplained Anemia
Anemia is can be caused by tumors with symptoms such as tiredness, malaise, pallor. You feel tired constantly.
Liver Enlargement
Spreading of the colon tumor causes enlargement of the liver, which in turn causes pain in the area of jaundice and liver.
